"Watching the guys get the Christmas tree in the rain got me thinking about my boyfriend criteria at age 19 versus at 41. Back then, having a contentious relationship with your family was a relatable thing and a sign that life had dealt you a crappy hand. Now that I’m older, I get that peace and duty and loyalty in family relationships are values that take work, not a sign that you lucked out and had it easy. Having bad relationships doesn’t mean you’re a bad person, but having good relationships is a reflection on your character. Fighting is easy. Living life with the philosophy that things should be harmonious takes work."
